How To Plan A Ski Trip To Chile & Argentina
The Andes are big, rugged mountains with fast, powerful storm cycles. In El Nino years the only reliable strategy is with elevation insurance. Resorts above 2800 meters stay above the rain snow line when warm Pacific storms hit.
This page gives you the fastest and cleanest way to plan a ski trip to Chile or Argentina with direct links for flights hotels gear and insurance.
Weekly Andes Snow Briefing
Updated each week with freezing levels storm tracks elevation risk and the best resort to ski right now. This is the live conditions hub for Chile and Argentina during the season.
This Week's Overview - June 15, 2026
A cold storm cycle is moving through the Andes with light to moderate snow across central Chile and the deepest totals concentrated in the south. Corralco is seeing the strongest activity, with two storm pulses expected through the weekend. Valle Nevado, Portillo, and Las Leñas are getting lighter but consistent accumulation on top of a base that built fast over the past week.
Best Resort This Week
Corralco is the top pick this week with the highest snowfall totals, coldest temperatures and two storm pulses. Portillo is the runner-up, with 45 cm from earlier in the week.
Freezing Level And Storm Notes
Freezing levels are sitting at or below all base areas, which means snow quality should be good. Expect light powder on top of what is already a solid early-season foundation.
Where To Ski In Chile & Argentina
Elevation is the most important factor in South America. Resorts below 2400 meters are exposed to warm storms. Resorts above 2800 meters are much safer.
Valle Nevado (Base 3000m)
The most reliable snowpack in Chile during warm cycles. High elevation plateau with access to La Parva and El Colorado. Most reliable skiing in August and September.

Gear For The Andes
The Andes are wind buff high elevation and variable. This is not Japan or Colorado. The correct ski width is 95 to 102mm. This width handles wind buff hardpack and storm cycles without being too wide.
- Hard shell jacket for wind
- Low light lens
- Warm mid layer for cold storm cycles
Insurance For High Consequence Terrain
The Andes are remote with steep terrain and storm closures. Insurance is mandatory for international travel for flights, hotels and off-piste skiing.
