Where to Stay in the Dolomites

To keep your logistics simple focus on the two power bases that matter most for experts: Selva di Val Gardena for the best lift linked circuit access and north facing steeps and Cortina d'Ampezzo for Olympic heritage and dramatic off piste.

While Arabba offers incredible steep skiing the village is tiny. Alta Badia and Canazei are world class but their terrain leans toward intermediates and leisure skiers. They are excellent for mixed ability groups and food focused trips but they are not the most efficient expert bases.


Val Gardena: Selva • Santa Cristina • Ortisei

Val Gardena has the most balanced base with fast lift access long blues direct Sella Ronda entry and lively villages.

Selva di Val Gardena

Ski in ski out energy best for experts great bars easy access to both clockwise and counterclockwise Sella Ronda.

Santa Cristina

Santa Cristina works well for skiers who want quieter nights with fast access to the Saslong and Monte Pana lifts. It is a strong choice for mixed groups who want a calmer base without losing access to the main terrain.

Ortisei

Stylish walkable boutique shopping spa hotels and the best access to Seceda’s long blue runs.


Alta Badia: Corvara • La Villa • San Cassiano

Alta Badia is the Dolomites food capital with calm villages wide blues and Michelin level mountain huts.

Corvara

The most central point of the entire Dolomiti Superski network. Quiet upscale perfect for cruisers and food focused travelers.

La Villa

La Villa sits below the Gran Risa World Cup piste. It is a quiet village with strong lift access and a more local feel.

San Cassiano

Refined quiet gourmet driven and home to some of the best on piste dining in Europe.


Cortina d'Ampezzo

Cortina is the Queen of the Dolomites glamorous stylish and built for advanced skiers. It is not directly on the Sella Ronda but it delivers dramatic terrain and a lively village.

Getting to the Dolomites

The easiest access is via Venice or Innsbruck.

Most North American skiers fly into Venice. If your schedule allows spending a night or two in Venice before heading to the mountains is one of the great trip combinations available anywhere.
