St Anton Slope-Side: The Top Hotels for Galzig & Valluga Access
Quick Picks
St. Anton am Arlberg is where modern alpine skiing was invented — and it still skis like it. The deepest off-piste snowpack in the Alps, one of the most technically demanding lift-accessed networks in Europe, legendary après-ski culture, and a village energy that has no equivalent in the French or Swiss resorts.
This guide covers where to stay, how the terrain actually skis, and the runs that define the Arlberg for North American skiers who want the real thing.
St. Anton Village — The Center of Everything
St. Anton's pedestrian village sits directly beneath the Galzig and Gampen lifts, giving you ski-in/ski-out access to the main mountain from most hotels. The village is genuinely walkable, compact, and built around skiing in a way that Zermatt or Verbier are not. Apres-ski culture here is unmatched in the Alps. The Mooserwirt and Krazy Kanguruh are 10-minute ski descents from the top of the Galzig and the energy builds all afternoon.
- Ski-in/ski-out to the main Galzig and Gampen sectors
- Best nightlife and après-ski in the entire Alps
- Compact, walkable, and authentically Austrian

St. Christoph am Arlberg — High-Altitude Exclusivity
St. Christoph sits at 1,800 meters at the top of the Arlberg Pass which is quieter than St. Anton, more exclusive and positioned directly on the piste with ski-in/ski-out access to the Galzig summit and the Valluga sector above.
If you want the best snow in the morning without competing with the village crowds for the first lifts, this is the base. It has exactly two hotels and no nightlife, which is precisely the point.
- Quiet, high-altitude, and genuinely ski-in/ski-out
- Best position for expert skiers targeting Valluga terrain
- 10-minute drive to St. Anton village for evenings

Lech and Zurs - The Quieter, More Refined Arlberg
Lech and Zurs are technically separate villages on the far side of the Arlberg massif, connected to St. Anton by lift and bus rather than continuous piste skiing. They share the same ski pass but have a completely different character. They are quieter, more expensive and a lot more discreet. Lech in particular has a long-standing reputation as one of Europe's most exclusive ski villages.

Getting to St. Anton
The best gateway airports are Innsbruck (INN) and Zurich (ZRH). Innsbruck is faster but has fewer transatlantic connections and most North Americans fly into Zurich and transfer.
St. Anton sits directly on the main rail line between Zurich and Innsbruck, making the train one of the most convenient ski resort connections anywhere in Europe. So, relax and take the scenic train if you aren't traveling anywhere else.

Galzig and the Valluga - The Heart of the Mountain
The Valluga II requires a valid guide and the ski area does not allow unaccompanied descent from the summit.
